An Expectation of Violence
An Expectation of Violence is an early contemporary dance work choreographed and directed by jaamil. Premiering in 2010, the performance explores anticipation, threat, and the psychological weight of living in a state of constant vigilance.
Through movement and physical tension, the work considers how the expectation of violence can shape the body, transforming posture, behavior, and one's relationship to the surrounding world. The piece reflects an early exploration of themes that would continue to emerge throughout jaamil's interdisciplinary practice: the body as a site of memory, survival, and resistance.
